SPOTLIGHT ON THE HONORARY BOARD – Joseph L. Campbell

By Lloyd Crenna

Honorary Board member, Joseph L. “Joe” Campbell, is the focus of this Historian’s spotlight.  I have known Joe for many years having worked with him at  Martin Brothers Construction Company of Concord in the late 1960’s.  From that beginning, Joe determined that he was good at and enjoyed contracting.  He founded his own  engineering construction firm operating until 1989 when he sold it.  He specialized in underground and water lines, installing much of the water lines in the Clayton Valley.  He was elected to the Contra Costa Water District’s Board of Directors in 1991 and has served as Board President for fifteen years, to the present.  After the sale of his company, he assumed the position of Secretary Treasurer of a large Health Care Management Company, co-managing 300 employees until 2000 when he sold his interest.  He is currently an independent businessman.

Mr. Campbell has, during his years of living in Contra Costa County, served on many county boards and commissions. He was Chair of the Contra Costa County Airport Land Use Commission, vice president of the Concord Chamber of Commerce, served as a member of the Concord General Plan Committee and of the Founder Advisory Board of Concord Commercial Bank.  He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Contra Costa Council, a member of the  Concord Rotary, and the California Business and Professionals Association.  He is a former member of the Walnut Creek Child Care Task Force, the Walnut Festival Association, the Northgate High School Sports Boosters, American Red Cross board, Concord Pavilion Associates member and  member of the Clayton Rotary.  Joe is also a Past President and founder of the Concord Economic Development Corporation, a partnership of the Concord Chamber of Commerce and the City of Concord.

As your President, I am pleased to have Joseph L. Campbell on our Honorary Board and look forward to his sharing with us his skills in community advancement.
