Dave Brubeck Memorial

2350 Pacheco Street

Elizabeth Ivey was born in 1886 in a ranch near Concord. She moved to town with her parents and family when she was in her early teens. A small stream that ran near the property overflowed and flooded the yard. Elizabeth’s mother, Joanna went into the yard to rescue baby chicks. She fell, possibly hitting her head and drowned in a few inches of water. Elizabeth met her future husband, Howard Pete Brubeck, when her father brought the young man over for dinner. Henry had been impressed by Pete, who had purchased a ranch in Ygnacio Valley. In 1911, Elizabeth Brubeck inherited the Brubeck Home after her father died. Elizabeth Ivey Brubeck and HP Brubeck raised their three sons there. All of whom became musicians.
