The original Concord Hospital began in 1930 in a small home on East Street halfway up the block. Founded by nurse Edna Haywood, the Concord Community Hospital soon expanded to a two story facility. After Tom Hanks was born in the Concord Community Hospital in 1956. By 1972, the hospital has expanded to become the Mount Diablo Hospital/Medical Center and later expansion created the John Muir Medical Center. For over 60 years the Maltby-Mckinnen House sat where the hospital parking lot is now.
